Why I'm switching to essential oils and ditching all the chemicals

I've been reading a bit about how we are the gate keepers to our homes. We get to decide what comes into our homes and whether we are choosing products that support our health or products that cause cancers and diseases. I started to think about how much money we spent every month on products that are all chemical based. Laundry soap, dryer sheets, shampoo, conditioner, bubble bath, shower gels, makeup, lotions, dishwasher pods, cleaners and bleach. That's a lot of stuff with a lot of chemicals. I've also been noticing recalls of popular brands that I'm sure I've used on my little ones at some point. All labeled "natural".

Once I realized that investing in some oils was actually cheaper than all the money we were spending on products each month it was sort of a no-brainer. You can cut out a huge amount of products from simply investing in a few oils to start, although a Young Living starter pack isn't too shabby either. You can replace all of the chemical based products in your home by simply having essential oils, castle soap, olive oil, baking soda and vinegar. I am slowly purging all the chemicals from our home by making my own natural products with an essential oil starter kit and the above noted household items. Here are some of the ways that essential oils have changed our lives and some amazing recipes that I have tried and love!

First of all it's amazing walking into a house that smells so fresh and clean. We have a farm house with mud, kids, dogs and a cat. There aren't enough scented candles to cover up farm dogs on a rainy day! Every morning I fill the diffusers with whatever scent suits the day. It's a great feeling to fill the house with pleasant aromas that actually support our immune system and help to clean the air. Plus you can mix up your blend to energize you, calm fussy kids or reduce stress.

One by one, I am replacing all my beauty products with my own natural homemade products. Did you know that women apply an average of 168 chemicals on a daily basis. That seems like a high number, I thought to myself. I probably don't use that much. But when I thought about it a little more... well there's face wash, hair serums, lotions, bath bombs, laundry boosters and the recent class-action law suit against the makers of my favorite conditioner. Nooooo! My favorite hair products are allegedly causing hair loss. What is my intention in buying all of these chemicals and applying them to my hair and skin several times a day?? Well the point is to look and feel my best. On that note, put down the chemicals! It's time to start using products that support your health! Essential oils really are plant magic straight from mother nature.

I'm sure we've all had that gross heady feeling after cleaning the bathroom with harsh chemicals. Not fun. I'm done with that. Cleaning allllll day looongg is much more enjoyable with my own homemade natural cleaning products that work better than commercial cleaners and smell absolutely amazing. It's also a great feeling to not have to worry about little ones touching or breathing in chemicals. I have found amazing recipes for all purpose cleaners, shower scrubs, laundry boosters, stain removers, veggie sprays and so much more. Try them yourself!!
